A Pastoral Role-Playing Game or Pastoral RPG combines elements from facilitated support groups, small group ministry, and role-playing games to create a facilitated, intentional, collaborative experience that encourages creativity, social interaction, cooperation, and problem solving giving players the opportunity to experiment with different styles of interaction, take risks, make questionable decisions, face fears, explore deeper emotional & spiritual issues, and try out different beliefs and behaviors in a low-stakes, supportive environment.
Like support groups, all of the participants work together to help one another meet their needs.
Like small group ministry, the structure and rituals are chosen intentionally to promote a sense of safety, the formation of community, and the practice of active listening.
Like role-playing games, the activity is mentally and emotionally engaging and fun for all.
Players can use Pastoral RPGs to experience a stronger sense of personal control, build confidence, develop greater social skills, and explore aspects of their personality.
Pastoral RPGs give players a chance for respite, restoration, renewal, and reflection.
Whether you want to just lose yourself in the story or you want to be the hero in a pitched battle for truth, honor, and justice, or you just want to laugh and be someone else for a bit....
